7/14/26 Update From the Tax Department…..
Your Final 2026/Preliminary 2027 tax bill will be mailed starting the week of July 27th. Payments must be received on or before August 20th. Interest will revert back to August 1 if your payment is received after August 20th. You may access your tax bill online at www.montvalenj.gov
Borough Hall hours are from 8am-4pm Mon, Tues, Wed; Thursday 8am-6pm and Friday 8am -12pm. For your convenience, a dropbox is located curbside by the main entrance of the Library. You may pay online through the borough website at www.montvalenj.gov, or you can mail your payment to the Borough at 12 DePiero Drive, Attn: Tax Collector.
If you would like your bill returned stamped PAID, please enclose your entire bill with payment and include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

The Division of Taxation has advised that they have staff going around the State offering filing assistance for seniors completing the PAS-1.
There is no advance registration required. Anyone who needs assistance can simply attend.
Before visiting a PAS-1 filing event, have your: Social Security Number Name Address, including County/ Municipality Code + Block/Lot Photo ID Al 2023 & 2024 Income Documentation (NJ-1040(s), 1099-R(s), and 1099-SSA(s)) Total Billed 2023 & 2024 Property Taxes(which can be found on Montvale’s website)

Tax Payment Schedule
Property taxes are due February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1 each year.
A 10‑day grace period applies unless otherwise noted.
Tax Payment Drop Box
A secure tax‑only drop box is located outside the main entrance of the Montvale Public Library, 12 DePiero Drive.
- Checks only (no cash)
- Payments deposited after business hours are processed the next business day
Veteran Tax Benefits
$250 Veteran or Surviving Spouse Deduction
Honorably discharged veterans who served on active duty during eligible conflicts may qualify for a $250 annual property tax deduction. Eligible service includes:
World Trade Center Rescue & Recovery, Northern/Southern Watch, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Joint Guard (Bosnia & Herzegovina), Joint Endeavor (Bosnia & Herzegovina), Restore Hope (Somalia), Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Panama Peacekeeping, Lebanon Peacekeeping, Grenada Peacekeeping, Vietnam Conflict, Korean Conflict, and World War II.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Must own a residence in Montvale as of October 1 of the pretax year
- Must provide Honorable Discharge documentation (DD‑214)
- Must have served in one of the qualifying conflicts
100% Permanently Disabled Veteran or Surviving Spouse Exemption
New Jersey resident war veterans who are 100% permanently and totally disabled due to a service‑connected condition, as certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, may qualify for a full property tax exemption on their primary residence and lot.
Income Tax Exemption for Veterans
Beginning with Tax Year 2019, honorably discharged veterans may claim a $6,000 exemption on their New Jersey Income Tax return.
- Applies to both resident and nonresident returns
- Spouses/civil union partners who are also honorably discharged veterans may each claim the exemption on a joint return
- Not available for domestic partners or dependents

Senior Citizen, Disabled Person & Surviving Spouse Deduction
Eligible Montvale residents may receive a $250 annual property tax deduction if they:
- Own and occupy the home as of October 1 of the pretax year
- Are 65 or older, permanently and totally disabled, or a surviving spouse of someone who qualified
- Have an annual income of $10,000 or less, excluding Social Security benefits
